ProCharter Coordinates AN-124 Heavy-Lift Charter Flight

AN-124 Heavy-Lift Charter Flight
This operation demonstrates exactly where ProCharter adds value: complex airlift, specialist cargo, demanding timelines and the need for absolute operational confidence.
Transporting sensitive aerospace equipment across the Pacific required far more than simply securing an aircraft. Every stage demanded detailed planning, careful environmental consideration, Dangerous Goods expertise and close coordination between all stakeholders to ensure the cargo arrived safely and on schedule.
– Ryan Duffy, Director of Strategy, Special Projects, Training & Consultancy
ProCharter, a global aviation and logistics solutions provider, has successfully coordinated a specialist Antonov AN-124 heavy-lift charter operation in support of an aerospace logistics programme, transporting mission-critical aerospace cargo from Auckland, New Zealand.
The operation formed part of a wider frontier services programme supporting an international customer supply chain and demonstrated ProCharter’s capability to deliver complex, time-critical heavy-lift air charter solutions across continents.
The Antonov AN-124 is purpose-built for the transportation of heavy and oversized freight, with a payload capability of up to 120 tonnes. Its unique configuration and loading capabilities enable it to transport cargo that cannot be accommodated by conventional freighter aircraft.
Complex Aerospace Cargo Movement
The operation involved the transportation of several out-of-gauge items from New Zealand as part of a critical international supply chain. The intercontinental movement required meticulous planning, secure cargo handling and continuous coordination between multiple operational stakeholders.
ProCharter’s cargo planning team and Dangerous Goods experts gave particular attention to environmental and cargo-protection requirements, including temperature management, vibration mitigation and the safe transportation of regulated dangerous goods, including lithium batteries and non-flammable gas. These measures ensured that the cargo remained protected throughout the journey.
ProCharter’s role encompassed aircraft sourcing, charter operational planning, the mobilisation of two experienced Dangerous Goods and operational management specialists, schedule management, route support, and detailed liaison with stakeholders, airport authorities and handling agents.
This integrated approach enabled ProCharter to maintain operational oversight throughout the movement and ensure that the required standards of safety, coordination and execution were maintained.
Specialist Heavy-Lift Capability
The AN-124 is widely employed for the transportation of oversized cargo. Its nose- and rear-loading capability, reinforced cargo deck, onboard cranes and high-volume cargo hold make it particularly well suited to aerospace logistics, where cargo size, weight, environmental protection and schedule reliability are critical considerations.
The successful operation further demonstrates ProCharter’s ability to manage specialist airlift requirements from initial aircraft sourcing through to operational execution, providing customers with a single point of coordination for complex and time-critical cargo movements.
Commitment to New Zealand
Building on its experience supporting complex aviation and logistics operations in New Zealand, ProCharter is exploring opportunities to deepen its engagement across the country and wider region.
As an initial demonstration of this commitment, ProCharter has secured membership to the New Zealand Defence Industry Association (NZDIA). This will enable the company to build stronger relationships with local stakeholders, contribute its international aviation and logistics expertise, and support future aerospace, defence and specialist logistics requirements in New Zealand.
“Delivering this operation from Auckland reinforced both the strength of New Zealand’s aviation ecosystem and the opportunities for ProCharter to develop a more active presence in the region,” added Ryan Duffy, Director of Strategy, Special Projects, Training & Consultancy.
